Connect an extension to Microsoft Teams

Link a Phonovo extension to a Microsoft Teams user's SIP address so calls to that extension can ring their Teams client.

Who this is for: admins

Before you start

  • Microsoft Teams Direct Routing must already be turned on for your whole account. This is done by Phonovo, not from your portal — if you haven't asked for it yet, contact your administrator or Phonovo support to enable Teams Direct Routing before you continue. If it isn't enabled yet, the Teams tab (see below) will show a Teams Direct Routing Not Enabled message instead of the setup form.
  • The extension you want to link already exists. If not, see Create an extension and assign it to a user.
  • The Microsoft Teams user's SIP address (usually their User Principal Name, e.g. alice@contoso.onmicrosoft.com).

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, under Communication, select Extensions.
  2. Find the extension in the list and select the Configure icon (the sliders icon in the Actions column).
  3. Select the Teams tab.
  4. Under Teams SIP URI, enter the Teams user's SIP address (usually their UPN), for example alice@contoso.onmicrosoft.com. This field is required.
  5. Optionally fill in Teams UPN (normalized) if it needs to differ from the SIP URI — leave it blank and Phonovo will derive it automatically.
  6. Optionally enter a Display Name — this is what shows in the operator panel next to the Teams icon badge for this extension.
  7. Under Ringing Mode, choose how calls should ring across the desk phone/softphone and Teams together.
  8. Select Create Mapping to save.
  9. Once a mapping exists, a Teams Calling Enabled toggle appears — use it if you ever need to temporarily turn Teams calling off for this extension without deleting the mapping.
  10. Select Test to validate the configuration, or Remove Mapping to unlink Teams from this extension entirely.

Ask Olivia

You can also ask Olivia, the in-portal assistant, to walk you through this.
