Assign and release phone numbers¶
Hand a phone number from your partner number pool to a customer, or return one to the pool.
Who this is for: partners (resellers)
Before you start¶
- The Manage Customers permission. Everyone with portal access can see the Phone Numbers page, but assigning or releasing a number needs this permission — if you don't have it, the buttons are still visible but fail with a permission error when you click them, so ask your Partner Admin to check your access first.
- A number pool already allocated to your partner account. This page only assigns and releases numbers already in your pool — it can't order, port in, or add brand-new numbers. If you have no numbers at all yet, contact Phonovo support to have a pool allocated.
- If the number you're assigning has a monthly cost, a payment method on file for your partner account — assigning it creates an invoice immediately and adds a recurring monthly DID rental charge.
Steps¶
- In the sidebar, under Customers, select Phone Numbers. The Total, Available, and Assigned tiles at the top summarise your pool.
- Use the search box (Search numbers or customers...) or the status filter (All Statuses, Available, Assigned) to find the number you want. The table shows Number, Region, Status, Assigned To, Cost/mo, and Actions for each entry — vanity numbers carry a Vanity badge.

Assign a number to a customer¶
- Find a number with an Available status badge.
- In the Actions column, select the Assign to Customer icon.
- In the Assign to Customer dialog, check the Monthly partner charge shown, then use Search Customers and the Select Customer dropdown to pick the destination customer (listed as domain name and company name).
- If the number has a monthly cost, select Review Charge first — this reveals a note that assigning will create an invoice now and add a recurring monthly DID rental to your partner account. Select Assign to confirm. If the number is free, Assign is available straight away.
- Wait for the Number Assigned confirmation.

Release a number back to your pool¶
- Find a number with an Assigned status badge.
- In the Actions column, select the Unassign icon.
- In the Unassign Phone Number confirmation dialog, review the warning that the number will be returned to your available pool, then select Unassign.
- Wait for the Number Released confirmation. The number's status flips back to Available and any recurring monthly charge for it is cancelled.
